Three Ways I’m Being More Productive with My New Schedule

3 tips to be productive

I am still adjusting to a new schedule with lots of added responsibilities. While there are days that are overwhelming, I am enjoying all the tasks given to me!

The new routine has definitely forced me to become more disciplined with my time. For the most part, I am pretty naturally organized when it comes to things. But when it comes to time, it’s easy to lose track! Here are some ways I am keeping it all together. I hope they will help you as well!

1. Getting enough sleep. If you know me, you know that I stay up way too late and get up early with my boys. Many nights I average three to fours of sleep. It’s simply not enough for my body long term. I was reminded of this when I got very sick a month ago, which is rare for me. I knew my body was more susceptible to the germs because I wasn’t getting the right amount of rest. Since part of my new schedule involves being at our church in the mornings a couple days a week, I have slowly started getting myself in bed earlier. This isn’t easy for me, but necessary. It’s made it much easier to get up at 6am! Plus, I know I function better with more patience when I get a good start in the morning. It also allows me to have uninterrupted quiet time with the Lord before starting my day!

2. Learn to delegate or delete. I can have a hard time letting go of tasks. If I start something, I want to finish it. I also often feel it’s easier to do it myself than to try to explain to someone else. {I’m sure this isn’t always an attractive feature!} Over the past few weeks, I’ve come to accept that I simply cannot do it all. I have started having Domingo help more around the house and my good friend Jenn has picked up some of the technical slack on the blogs for me. There are some things I’ve completely gotten rid of, since time just doesn’t allow for them right now. Some things  were sad to see go.. others were an immediate relief once I removed them. Change isn’t always easy, but it’s usually necessary!

3. Stick with your budgeted time. Since I budget my money, I thought budgeting my time would be easy. Goodness! It’s been a learning experience! I have started setting a timer when working on tasks online to help keep me focused. Would I love to spend hours scrolling through Pinterest? Yes. Does it help me reach my goals? No. I have also worked on keeping myself distraction free while working. When I have the timer set for a task, I can’t click around to anything else. No checking Facebook in between writing, no checking Twitter while I should be working on a project. It was hard the first few days, but once I realized how much quicker I was working on tasks, it was reward enough to stick with it!

I am sure I will continue to learn as I work on projects. If you are in the middle of a busy season like me, I hope these tips will help you as well!
