Learn @ Home: What We’re Reading This Week 4/18

We used Dear Austin: Letters from the Underground Railroad by Elvira Woodruff as a read aloud book. This is the second book we’ve read by her and we’ve enjoyed them both. {The other was The Orphan Of Ellis Island (Time Travel Adventures)} Dear Austin was a great read, full of history and adventure. The characters captured our hearts!

We also read Time For Kids: Thomas Edison: A Brilliant Inventor (Time for Kids Biographies) together, although Jorryn could have definitely done it on his own. It was a nice overview of Thomas Edison’s life, with good pictures and interesting facts sprinkled throughout. Since we’ve been studying Mr. Edison in history class and we’ll soon be visiting Greenfield Village, we enjoyed this book.

I truly can’t say enough good things about Four Mice Deep in the Jungle (Geronimo Stilton, No. 5). It’s the fifth book in the series and Jorryn is devouring them. He’s been reading two books a night for the past week! He also finished The Search for Sunken Treasure (Geronimo Stilton, No. 25) this week. These books are clever and totally engage Jorryn. He has been happily heading upstairs at bedtime since he knows another book awaits him to enjoy before lights out! 🙂 I also love the pictures and great use of fonts and colors!
