How to Make Your Nail Polish Last

make your nail polish last

Yes, those are indeed my little nubby fingernails. I keep them short because they break so easily long. Plus, I feel like they look dirty longer.

At any rate – my nail polish chips SO easily! With three busy boys, I don’t have much time to paint my nails. Then, when it chips, it’s an even bigger let down. I just wasted all that time painting my nails and now I have to take it off!

So I’ve been on the hunt to find a way to keep my nail polish on a little longer. And I think I’ve found it! It’s vinegar! I used white vinegar, but I’ve read you can also use apple cider vinegar as well!

First, I clipped and filed my nails like normal. Then, I soaked them in white vinegar for about a minute. I wiped them off with a clean, dry towel. Then, I painted them and used a clear top coat.

The vinegar helps remove the oils on your nails so that the polish will adhere to your nails instead of the oils. This helps prolong the life of your polish!

So far, I’m pretty impressed! We’re on day four {which is twice as long as normal for me!} with this bright red polish, and still going strong! I am definitely doing this from now on, anytime I paint my nails!

Awesome, I’m going to have to try this! I can’t even get the “stays on for 2weeks” polish to not chip!

I was amazed how well it worked! I wash my hands so much during the day and usually between washing my hands and cleaning and everything, my nails are a mess really quick! They still look great! Thanks for the comment, Julie!

I use to have such long nails but since having our son they just don’t seem to want to grow out that long anymore without breaking first! I never really had a problem until now (I think its doing more dishes). As far as wearing nail polish, I gave up on that stuff years ago!! LOL I never seemed to wait long enough between layers and it would just slide off my nail once I thought that I was done. Then IF I did do it right…if I had even the most smallest chip…I was sitting there picking off the rest! (OCD lol) Even though this is a cool trick, I think that it’s best for me just to continue to ignore nail polish lol

I am going to have to try this. I don’t paint my nails very often because as soon as I do it is pealing off by the next day so maybe I can have pretty nails for a while longer now.
