You know, the blogger who works 1,000 hours a week in front of her computer.
The one who does the laundry, the dishes, makes the meals, home schools, saves the world. All while working on blog posts, brand promotions, and freelance writing.
I love my blog. I love to write. I love to promote awesome products that I truly feel improve my readers lives.
I do not however like you, PR Rep who thinks it is appropriate or acceptable to email me and offer me a coupon for a piece of chicken in exchange for blogging about your client’s product. Really. A piece of chicken? Is this piece of chicken made of gold? Cause even if it’s finger lickin’ good, I’m NOT blogging for a piece of chicken.
I find it rather insulting actually.
What would you say if your boss called you in on Monday morning and said “Listen, I know you work hard to provide a great service to our clients, but this week, instead of your paycheck, we’ll be giving you a piece of chicken.”
Would you do it?
So why do YOU think it’s okay to email bloggers and offer them ridiculous “perks” in exchange for free promotion. If you wouldn’t take that payment yourself for a job well done, you should be ashamed to email it and offer it to anyone else.
And don’t even bother responding and telling me how you’re sorry but you “don’t have a budget” for this brand. Because I just saw their several thousand dollar ad on TV a minute ago.
I offer a quality service that I’m proud of. And I do it for a fee. Just like how you have a job that you do and earn a fee. It’s really not so complicated.
So, unless you’re going to send me enough chicken to feed my family for the next six months, I’m really not interested in this promotion.
